Global demand for nuclear power is increasing, driven by decarbonisation efforts, energy security considerations, and the accelerating energy requirements of AI and data centre infrastructure. No other energy source matches nuclear energy’s ability to supply clean, safe, and reliable baseload power.
Nuclear power is on the agenda in around 30 nations with over 300 nuclear reactors under development or proposed around the world. The United States, the largest generator of nuclear power, has set a goal of quadrupling nuclear generation from approximately 100 GW to over 400 GW by 2050.
Meanwhile, power producers are working to boost generation from the existing global fleet of 440+ nuclear reactors. Utilities are increasing output through power uprates, reactor restarts, lifetime extensions, and increased operational efficiencies.
All this translates to significant new and growing demand for uranium.
Substantial additional uranium production will be required. Based on known and likely developed uranium deposits, a large and ongoing supply deficit is expected to persist.
